Moroccan Hammam Ritual
Moroccan Hammam
• The ritual usually takes place in a traditional hammam (bathhouse), which consists of several steam rooms with increasing temperatures.
• You start by spending time in the warmest room, allowing your body to sweat and pores to open.
Cleansing with (Beldi Black Soap)
• Your body is covered in black soap (a natural olive-based soap rich in vitamin E) to soften the skin.
• This soap sits on the skin for a few minutes, before rinsing and preparing the skin for deep exfoliation.
Exfoliation with Kessa Glove
• Using a kessa glove, you start scrubbing the body to remove the dead skin and impurities.
• This is a key step, leaving the skin incredibly smooth.
Ghassoul Clay Mask
• After exfoliation, many apply ghassoul (rhassoul) clay, a mineral-rich clay from the Atlas Mountains, mixed with rosewater or orange blossom water.
• This nourishes and detoxifies the skin.
Rinsing and Aromatherapy
• The body is rinsed with warm water, often followed by a hair wash using natural ingredients like argan oil or herbal infusions.
